3 Ways to Have an Olympic-Inspired Summer

Every four years during the summer, we have the opportunity to unite with friends, neighbors, and fellow Americans to celebrate our athletes and revel in the spirit of competition and national pride. Embrace the excitement of this Olympic year and make this summer all about getting inspired by the Games!

  1. Try Olympic-Themed Workouts

While we can’t all be Olympians, we can be encouraged by their dedication to pushing their bodies to the limit, doing their best, and feeling strong, powerful, and confident. Take a page out of an Olympian playbook with these workout tips:

  • Find a workout buddy and plan to do an Olympic Pentathlon 2-3 times per week. This 5 part workout includes strength and running; here’s an intermediate plan: 40 lunges per leg, 50 kneeling push-ups, 50 squats, 50 dips, and finish with a 2,000-meter (1.2 mile) run. Protect and support your knees with the Copper Fit Freedom Knee Sleeve. It provides mild to moderate compression for all-day comfort. The contour construction won’t lose shape and delivers a perfect fit and joint comfort. The 4-way stretch offers ultimate flexibility. Studies of compression garments have shown faster relief of muscle soreness and joint pain when worn for 12-48 hours after exercise.
  • Give swimming a try. Olympic swimming is thrilling to watch. For the average person, swimming is an excellent way to tone and strengthen the whole body, a fantastic cardio workout, and has a low impact on the joints and bones. It has even been shown to help lessen joint pain and stiffness for osteoarthritis sufferers. If you're an adult feeling a little rusty and want to work on form, breathing techniques, and more, check out the U.S. Master’s Swimming database for an instructor near you.

  • Host an Olympic-Themed Viewing Party
  • Watching the Olympics with friends and family is a fantastic way to celebrate sportsmanship, honor America, and create lasting memories around this special event. Sharing the experience makes every moment more thrilling and enjoyable!

    • Have fun with food: Shape fruit into Olympic rings, grouping by color using green grapes, blueberries, melon for orange, and strawberries. You might have to sneak in some Oreo cookies for the black ring. Purchase a simple sheet cake with white frosting and add a raspberry and blueberry flag. Try the sweet and savory Patriotic Party Mix with Chex, red and blue M&Ms, and red, white, and blue sprinkles for a crowd-pleasing snack.
    • Play games: Make an Olympic Bingo Card. Boxes can include moments like “athlete waving to camera,” “USA gold medal win,” or “record broken.”  You can also create an Olympic Trivia game during commercial breaks and crown a winner at the end! Find a list of facts here.
    • Keep decor simple: red, white, and blue streamers and balloons make it festive. Get creative with the medals ceremony and pass out chocolate medals using gold, silver, and bronze foil-wrapped chocolate coins or sugar cookies decorated with colored frosting.

  • Host a Fun Mini-Olympics
  • Organize a mini Olympics with your neighborhood or friends and family. Begin by passing a homemade Olympic torch to everyone at the party while playing the Olympic theme song. Once everyone has had a turn, place the torch in a spot of honor for the remainder of the event. Create your torch using a flashlight, aluminum foil, and tissue paper for a fun DIY project.

    • While the games are on TV, have fun competitions simultaneously. Keep it simple and easy with events like bocce ball, three-legged races, watermelon eating, and cherry pit spitting. Give a funny relay race a try with the egg and spoon relay. Each player receives a spoon and an egg (either hardboiled or plastic). Teams must carry their egg on the spoon from the starting line to a designated turnaround point and back without dropping it. Once back, the egg is passed to the next teammate, who repeats the process. The first team to complete the relay wins!

    • Be inspired by some new sports that will debut at the Paris 2024 Olympics: breaking, skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing, and 3x3 basketball.
    • Get serious. Head to the track and compete in sprints and relays. Swimming relays in your pool are lots of fun. Keep it simple and prevent injury with Copper Fit—products that provide premium support for your back, ankle, feet, hands, knees, and more. From the Rapid Relief Ankle Foot Wrap to the Freedom Elbow Sleeve, Copper Fit provides your body's compression support with an improved performance fabric blend and contour construction that won’t lose shape, delivering the perfect fit and joint comfort.
